Something needs to be done, but it AIN’T Universal Health Care ANYWHERE in the USA – there are options, but people want too much for nothing

April 2, 2009

I am a big supporter of people being well. I believe that in this country there is ample amounts of food, of medicine, of everything, and that there should be enough of it to go around.

Then I wake up, realize that things are FAR different than they were a long, long time ago, and even though I feel like there is something that should be done for people, there is also that part of me that feels like enough is enough. It is bad enough now that Senator Leno (D- CA.) wants to implement a Universal Health Care program here in the state where overcrowding is not only a problem but also a major situation. If that bill passes, California will become even more populated than it already is. (Hey, I like a good party where there are a ton of people, but the reality is that we cannot sustain yet one more illegal crossing any border, any ocean, or beingg dropped off as cargo at LAX.)

People are under the impression that our healthcare problems here in the state will magically disappear with the simple swipe of the pen.  And for quite a few people it mightbe, but it won’t be for those of us who have to foot the bill for this ridiculous idea. There is such a program in place in Canada, and if you were to ask a Canadian citizen they would tell you that it is an idea whose time has come – TO GO!!!

Now, the argument could be that there would be better access for the homeless, the mentally ill, the poor, but the problem there is that there are MANY people in this state who are all presently qualifying for such a description because of the current state of the economy in California. In perusing the web I found that Texas is also now having the same issue, but at least in Texas they are actually trying to figure out who these people are and come up with a solution that implements the programs currently in place.  The problem is that people know that emergency rooms cannot turn people away – turning people away means that there is the possibility of lawsuits and bad press. There are several programs already in place to help these people. Here in California it is called Medi-Cal and it does not take very much to qualify for it or many of the other programs. The reason you do not hear about this is because too many people are too busy bad-mouthing such programs because they cannot get the one that they want – the free program- and are often placed in one of the many low-cost health plans also offered by the state by several of your major and well known brand name insurance carriers.

People want way too much for free. There is a certain sense of misplaced entitlement and it is most prevalent in those classes of people who are so jaded that they cannot see past their own overbloated sense that someone somewhere owes them, and dammit, they are going to get what is coming to them even if they have to have a tantrum to get it.

I have never understood the person who will complain about what it is that they need, complain that healthcare is too expensive, complain that they need to get to the doctor and at the same time that they are doing all this complaining, they want someone to feel sorry for them, even after and even as they know that they have options available to them but that they are doing what they are doing because they are standing up for the people who worked their asses off and now are owed what they think they are owed.

Yeah? Great. That really solves your issues,  doesn’t it? People like this are the type who are never happy with what is available, and even though I can understand their frustrations, this does not mean that being a moron about your health is excuable because you are standing up for “the cause.” Well, guess what else? While you were busy standing up for your stinkin’ cause, someone else who should not be getting healthcare is getting health care and because you stood up and made noise instead of standing up and trying to prove that there is stuff available, you held out for the freebie.

Did your mother not teach you that not everything in life is free and that sometimes those things that are free are totally not the best things at all? ER staffs are already over-worked, are already angry at the idea that people somewhere in the world are making decisions which can make it impossible for them to have their own health issues seen to, let alone the guy with the ten kids who is here illegally who comes to the ER for something as non-lethal as a friggin’ cold…but you want us to feel sorry for you because you were born here and you did this, that and the other for X-amount of years and since you paid into the system you are owed.

OK, so I agree with you to an extent. I agree that you are, to some degree, owed something in return for your contribution to a system which coddles the rich, gives alms to the class of poor who are able to work, which gives what little we have here for ourselves to people who come here illegally, talk trash about our citizens, our laws, and act as though this land is their land, not ours. I understand this feeling – I am right there with you, brother. However, what I am not with is the very idea that somehow, someone, somewhere owes you something enough that you would contribute to the system which is screwing you out and me and everyone else in the state out of what is ours – the right to NOT have to pay for peoples medical exams at the ER when there are so many programs in place that it would make their heads spin if they, and consequently YOU would bother to pull your head out of your ass and do some research about what is available.

You would rather whine about what you cannot have, bitch about what you want that someone from some foreign land is getting, and you would rather be sick than do what you know you should do and go to your local DPSS office and apply for what it is that you KNOW you need. You would rather have something and someone to complain about. You would rather be part of the problem than part of the solution.

You are the very societal ill which you complain about.

Yep – I said it, now DEAL WITH IT.

Here in Los Angeles County, there are several options, but you will not and cannot know about them if you do not research. You paid into a system that is taking care of people who do not deserve to be taken care of.

There are options available to all of us. There is no book written that says you have to like what you know is going on. There is also no book claiming that we want to hear you complaining about what it is that you do not like. If you are willing to bitch, then you also need to be willing to figure out what it is that you are able to do about your problems because bitching without action makes you nothing more than a bitch who sits and expects to get what they stomp their feet about.

And we already have the Octo-Bitch doing enough of that.

What the Hell!!!! I knew you were a firecracker in high school, but… I love it!!! The passion for your political beliefs is awesome. Your right. I have been plagued with one health problem after another. Thank God my husband and I can pay into our insurance. But, it ticks me off when I drive by the county clinic and see a mercedes in the parking lot with gold trim. So many people think of health insurance as a right, and maybe so, but we HAVE to put something into it to get something out of it. Free does not mean better. And nothing worth having comes easy. Mapuanna, run for office! Love you.
